MTN Ghana has reassured its Mobile Money (MoMo) customers that their funds remain secure and that no MoMo wallets have been compromised, despite a recent cybersecurity incident affecting its parent company, MTN Group.
In a direct message to its valued customers, MTN Ghana stated emphatically, “Y’ello Valued Customer, MTN MoMo remains safe and secure. Disregard any claims about system compromise. No customer wallet has been affected. Your funds are safe. Avoid sharing your PIN or OTPs, do not click on any suspicious links or tolerate any unsolicited calls.”
This assurance follows confirmation from MTN Group regarding a cybersecurity incident.
While the full scope of the breach is still under investigation, preliminary assessments indicate that the data of approximately 5,700 MTN Ghana customers may have been affected.
The company is currently working to determine the extent of the data compromise.
In response to the group-wide incident, MTN has engaged leading cybersecurity experts and initiated a thorough forensic investigation.
This action aligns with MTN’s established security protocols aimed at maintaining system integrity and safeguarding customer information.
Simultaneously, MTN Ghana is proactively advising its customers to exercise heightened vigilance.
Customers are also cautioned against clicking on suspicious links or engaging with unsolicited calls to protect themselves from potential fraudulent activities.
