Thomas Partey granted conditional bail after appearing in court for charges of rape and sexual assault

Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after being charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The 32-year-old Ghanaian appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The Ghanaian midfielder has been charged with five counts of rape against two women, as well as a charge of sexual assault against a third woman.

The alleged offences took place between 2021 and 2022 when he was playing for north London club Arsenal.

He was charged four days after leaving Arsenal when his contract expired at the end of June.

The charges follow an investigation by detectives, which started in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape.

Thomas Partey has left the court following his first appearance over a string of rape charges.

Partey was granted conditional bail, which means he can continue working as a footballer as long as he turns up to his next court appearance at the Old Bailey in September.

Thomas Partey bail conditions:

* Not allowed to contact any of the women involved in the case
* Must notify police of any address changes
* Must notify police of International traveling
* Must turn up to next court appearance at Old Bailey in September

Partey’s case has been moved to high court.

Thomas Partey will appear at the Old Bailey at 10am on September 2, the judge has decided.

Judge Paul Goldspring tells Partey: “You face six charges, five of which are indictable only, which means they must be sent to the crown court. The sixth charge can be sent if it is a related offence. I’m satisfied it is. In this case [you will be sent to] the Central Criminal Court, you might know it as the Old Bailey, on September 2 this year.”

After explaining his bail conditions, Judge Goldspring says Partey he is free to go.
